Definition of War:


(Katie) According to the American Public University war is a contest between nations or states, carried on by force, whether for defense, for revenging insults and redressing wrongs, for the extension of commerce, for the acquisition of territory, for obtaining and establishing the superiority and dominion of one over the other, or for any other purpose; armed conflict of sovereign powers; declared and open hostilities.


(Ellie) Sir Walter Raleigh once said, "The necessity of war, which among human actions is the most lawless, hath some kind of affinity with the necessity of law."

(Brittany) According to the American Public University war is to invade or attack a state or nation with the force of arms; to carry out hostilities; to be in a state of violence.


Combined definition:

A war is a conflict between two or more nations that causes devestation wherever it takes place. Many wars are over the protection of a country's land and liberties while others are fought for liberation from an unfair government. The consequences of war are varied and complex but it is a necessary part to protecting the laws and rights of each nation.

The Vietnam War (Ellie)

Fact 1: Although the Vietnam war was a civil war, many countries from around the world-The U.S.A, Australia, New Zealand, and South Korea- fought to protect the freedom and rights of the South Vietnamese people. ~Vietnam-war.info

Fact 2: The Vietnam war caused massive devistation across the country. More importantly millions of people died in the war. 58 thousand Americans alone were killed during the war. ~archives.gov

Fact 3: American involvement in the Vietnam war lasted from early in 1945 until April 30, 1975 when Saigon and South Vietnam were overtaken by the enemy. Thousands of Americans and also many Vietnamese wer quickly evacuated from the country. ~The Vietnam War written by James E. Westheider


World War II (Brittany)
- When Hitler came into power his plans where to over take other countries, such as Austria, Czechoslovakia and many other countries. This was all for his need to expand Germany. Hitler had built weapons such as tanks to go to war with Britian and France. He then planned to go against the Soviet Union and then the United States. -History.com

- In 1933 Nazi leaders undertook a nationwide boycott against jewish personnel that owned businesses and the gypsies. They then began to exclude non-aryans from government. In 1938 the Nazis destroyed 177 synagogues and 7,500 jewish shops. This ended in over half of the jewish population leaving Germany by 1939. - The National Archives archives.gov
